Day 4: Favorite Non-Powered Comic Bad Guy
JAMES GORDON JR
It was really a toss up between newcomer James, and my old standby Mr. Zsasz… but in the end, I really find James to be more terrifying.
They’re scary, really, for the same reason: these men could be real. What makes James scarier to me, though, is that you’d never know his true colors just by looking at him. With Zsasz, he’s got the scars all over— you can see that on the outside, he’s not right. James, however, is an average looking guy who happens to be a psychopath.
For much of Scott Snyder’s GENIUS run in Detective Comics, the evil inside James didn’t quite show. But these was almost a sick feeling you’d get while he was on the page. You knew something was wrong. I wasn’t let down, as a reader by the outcome. I was terrified.
If you haven’t read Snyder’s run on ‘Tec, I feel sorry for you! You’re missing out on the best Batman writing in a long time and one of the scariest characters to date!
